COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team capped a two-match home weekend by losing a 7-2 decision to Le Moyne College on Sunday at the SMC Tennis Courts. The Purple Knights are 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Dolphins moved to 5-2 and 4-2.
Saint Michael's forged a 2-1 lead coming out of doubles, including as senior Amelia Weeks (Clinton, Wash./South Whidbey) and sophomore Caroline Sumner (Needham, Mass./Needham) notched an 8-6 win at No. 2 against a duo that had been 5-2 entering the day, including 3-1 in the NE10. Junior Margaret de Pont (Norton, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and sophomore Abby Ramsay (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) claimed their match in the top position by virtue of a tie-breaker, taking a 9-8 (8-6) contest.
All six Purple Knights lost in straight sets during singles play, with de Pont dropping a pair of close decisions during a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 setback at No. 2. Ramsay, Sumner and sophomore Anna Schneider (Westbrook, Conn./Westbrook) all won five games from the first, fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
The Purple and Gold visits Saint Anselm College on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
