Seniors help Purple Knights top Salve Regina, women's tennis finishes regular season

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Seniors Eileen Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) and Emily Ogilvy (Bedford, N.H./Trinity) played a role in two victories to help the regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College women's tennis team finish its regular season with an 8-1 Senior Day triumph over non-conference opponent Salve Regina University on Sunday at the SMC Tennis Courts.

The Purple Knights, who rank ninth in the latest NCAA East region rankings, finished the regular season 12-7. They will hold down the fourth seed in this week's Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, hosting No. 5 Bentley University for the third consecutive year on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Seahawks fall to 8-8.

Saint Michael's claimed all three doubles matches by an 8-3 count, with Mullowney and Ogilvy siding for the first time in their careers, winning at No. 2. Junior Alex Dalton (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) and freshman Caroline Martin (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) held down the top spot, and freshmen Kayla Dowd (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Michelle Moreau (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) joined in the third position.  

The Purple Knights nabbed five of six singles matches, as junior Emily Magee (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) claimed a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 1, Dalton earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the second slot, and freshman Hannah Benoit (Mystic, Conn./Saint Bernard School) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. Freshman Caroline Toutoungi (Weston, Conn./Weston) and Ogilvy snagged 8-3 pro-set victories in the fifth and sixth slots, respectively.
