Women's Tennis Edges Merrimack, 5-4, In NE-10 Quarterfinals


COLCHESTER, Vt. - The fourth-seeded Saint Michael's College women's tennis team (14-5) earned a narrow 5-4 win versus fifth-seeded Merrimack College in the Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday in the Tarrant Recreation Center.

With the win, Saint Michael's advances to the NE-10 Semifinals, where it will visit top-seeded Stonehill College on Thursday at 3 p.m. Merrimack ends its season at 10-7.

For Saint Michael's, freshman Emily Ogilvy (Bedford, N.H./Trinity) won the decisive match at #6 singles, 7-5, 6-4. Also picking up key singles' victories for the Purple Knights were sophomore Lindsay Horne (Scituate, Mass./Scituate), as she earned a three-set win at #1 singles, and freshman Eileen Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) at #5 singles.

Mullowney also won at #3 doubles, partnering with junior Catherine Dalton (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) for a 9-8 (3) win. And earning an 8-3 victory at #2 doubles were sophomores Marran Ranks (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) and Marybeth Ash (Westborough, Mass./Westborough).

For Merrimack, sophomore Amanda Carroll (Tewksbury, Mass.) won twice, at #3 singles and at #1 doubles, teaming with junior Caitlin Dunn (Middleton, Mass.). Junior Cristina Lucin (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and sophomore Stellina Saia (Wakefield, Mass.) also won for the Warriors at #2 and #4 singles, respectively.
