Women's Soccer Announces Eleven Members Of Class Of 2013

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Eleven players - including a pair of Vermonters and the first Canadian in program history - will make up the Saint Michael's College women's soccer Class of 2013, head coach Marcel Choquette announced today.

The players include: forwards Janet Bazzell (Haverhill, N.H./Woodsville), Rachael Bowdish (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) and Cassie Crockett (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford); midfielders Kristin Hagenbarth (Killington, Vt./Woodstock Union), Rachel Horsey (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Central), Ali Lajoie (Litchfield, N.H./Campbell), Kelly O'Brien (Troy, N.Y./Catholic Central), Megan Olsen (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central), and Natalie Zimmer (Ingleside, Ontario/Cornwall Collegiate & Vocational School); and defenders Shannon Doherty (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) and Jessica White (Fairfax, Vt./Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax).

"We are very excited about this strong and large incoming class," said Choquette, who enters his 11th season with the Purple Knights this fall as the winngingest coach in program history with an 80-87-14 record. "We believe that this class will add depth, pace and athleticism to our strong nucleus of current student-athletes."

The two in-state players joining the program are Hagenbarth and White. Hagenbarth, a 5-foot-4-inch transfer from the University of Vermont, is the all-time leading scorer at Woodstock Union High School with 53 goals and 21 assists. White, a 5-foot-2-inch fullback, was the Mountain Division Player of the Year last fall at BFA-Fairfax, and two-year team captain.

All three incoming forwards should aid the Purple Knights' attack. The 5-foot-1-inch Bazzell is a three-time New Hampshire All-State selection, and tallied 117 points in her career as a striker at Woodsville High School. Bowdish, a 5-foot-6-inch forward, earned Section X All-Northern Second Team honors, and helped guide Lisbon Central High School to a Section X Championship. And the 5-foot-7-inch Crockett tallied 273 points (102 goals, 69 assists) at Gilford High School, and like Bazzell is a three-time New Hampshire All-State honoree.

Five other midfielders join Hagenbarth at a position that promises to be deep for Saint Michael's in years to come. The 5-foot-4-inch Horsey holds the Sussex Central High School record for goals in a season and career, and earned All-Conference honors. Lajoie, a 5-foot-3-inch sweeper from Campbell High School, is a three-time New Hampshire All-State selection (First Team as a sophomore and senior, and Honorable Mention as a junior). O'Brien, a 5-foot-5-inch player that can play anywhere on the field, was a Section II Class A All-Star as a senior at Catholic Central High School, and a four-time Big-10 First Team pick. The 5-foot-10-inch Olsen helped lead Bethlehem Central High School to the Section II Class AA Championship as a senior, earning honors from the Albany Times Union and the Troy Record. And Zimmer, a 5-foot-5-inch midfielder, is the first known Canadian in program history, and played club soccer with the Ottawa Fury.

Joining White on the back line is Doherty. A 5-foot-5-inch fullback, Doherty captained both the Cheverus High School girl's soccer team, and the Southern Maine Premier club soccer team this past year, earning Southern Maine Athletic Association All-Conference honors in the process.

Saint Michael's is coming off of an 8-8-2 season in 2008, the seventh time in the last nine years under Choquette that the program has finished .500 or better.
