Women's Soccer Rallies For 2-2 Tie At Bentley

October 19, 2007

WALTHAM, Mass. - Sophomore Cheryl Boyd (Holliston/Holliston HS) and junior Laura Siever (Plymouth/Plymouth North HS) combined on a pair of goals to help Bentley earn a 2-2 double-overtime draw with Saint Michael's on Friday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at the Bentley Soccer Complex. The Falcons' conference record remains at .500 with the tie, going to 5-5-3 in the NE-10 and 8-7-3 overall to put Bentley in a sixth-place tie in the NE-10, while the Purple Knights moved to 8-6-3 overall and 4-6-3 in the conference.

The Falcons got on the board midway through the first half when Siever set up Boyd for her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Bentley's 1-0 lead held through halftime until Boyd and junior Ashley Reynolds (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland HS) provided the assists on a strike from Siever for her third goal of the season in the 58th minute. Reynolds tallied her third assist in the last two games after setting up both Bentley goals in the Falcons' last outing.

Saint Michael's battled back, though, breaking through four minutes after Siever's goal when freshman Katie Murphy (Woodbridge, Conn.) set up junior Laura Anacone (Mansfield), who scored to bring the Purple Knights back within one. Saint Michael's got an equalizer in the 77th minute with a strike from junior Kelley Ruch (Woodstock, Vt.), set up by freshman Liz Freiberger (South Walpole) to even the score at 2-2.

Another 35 minutes of play elapsed without either team able to score a goal. Bentley freshman goalkeeper Kara Smith (West Springfield/West Springfield HS) kept the Falcons in the game with four saves in the extra frames for a total of 13 saves on the afternoon. Senior Gillian Goldman (Stratham, N.H.) made four saves at the other end for the Purple Knights as Saint Michael's outshot Bentley by a 21-16 margin.

The Falcons will be hoping to snag a playoff berth in their final regular season game on Tuesday when they host NE-10 foe Merrimack at 3:30 p.m. Bentley's four seniors will be honored before their final game at the Bentley Soccer Complex.
