COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse sophomore defender Emma Coleman (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, March 17. It was the first weekly accolade of Coleman's career.
Coleman turned in 13 caused turnovers and nine ground balls against two nationally-ranked teams last week, committing no turnovers herself while being whistled for only two fouls. In a 16-5 loss to No. 2 Adelphi University on Wednesday, she had seven caused turnovers and four ground balls before posting six caused turnovers and five ground balls in a 20-8 loss at No. 12 Assumption College on Saturday. Thanks in part to her efforts, Adelphi committed 24 giveaways, tied for its second most in the last 201 games over 10 and a half years.
An NE10 All-Rookie Team pick as a first-year, Coleman leads all of NCAA Division II in caused turnovers per game this spring (5.0) while tying for seventh in the East Region in ground balls per contest (3.7), good for a tie for fourth in the NE10. After setting the school record with 32 caused turnovers last season, Coleman already has 15 in just three games this year, along with 11 ground balls. Only 18 games into her college career, she is eighth in program history with 47 takeaways.
The Purple Knights, at 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the NE10, host Saint Anselm College on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
