COLCHESTER, Vt. - Recent Saint Michael's College graduate and women's lacrosse student-athlete Sara Biondello '09 (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large Second Team, it was announced on Thursday. The award is voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Biondello was recognized in the District 1 College Division. The College Division is made up of NCAA Division II and Division III institutions, while District 1 consists of all NCAA schools in New England, New York, and five Canadian provinces.
The "at-large" program consists of those sports that do not have their own Academic All-America program. Eligible sports for the women's at-large program include: bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.
Biondello, who graduated last week with a 3.88 Grade Point Average while majoring in psychology, was a four-year member of the women's lacrosse team, helping the team earn two Northeast-10 Conference Tournament berths, and a Quarterfinal win as a junior. A Dean's List member every semester, she has earned multiple NE-10 All-Academic honors, as well as being named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) Division II Academic Honor Roll on multiple occasions. Her GPA is the highest among the College's female student-athletes in the Class of 2009, and she is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society.
