COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team (4-10, 4-6 NE-10) defeated American International College (3-12, 1-9 NE-10), 19-10, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day on Duffy Field. The Purple Knights season ended by losing a three-way tie breaker to Franklin Pierce University.
For Saint Michael's, senior Kim Berlo (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) scored five goals and added an assist, classmate Amanda Pelley (Mashpee, Mass./Falmouth) scored four goals, and freshman Eliza Scoba (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) scored three goals and assisted on another. Senior Sara Biondello (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and junior Maddie Cave (Thomaston, Maine/Gould Academy) each finished with two goals and an assist. Freshman Sandra Palumbo (Guilford, Conn./Guildford) recorded nine second half saves for the Purple Knights to secure the victory.
For American International, senior Katie Warner (Westfield, Mass.) scored five goals and added an assist, while sophomore Alex Hudyka (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Morgan Mastronardi (Corunna, Ontario) each finished with two goals and an assist. Sophomore Gina Gallo (Westfield, Mass.) recorded 19 saves in net for the Yellow Jackets.
With the score tied up at 8 at the half, the Purple Knights started the second half by scoring seven unanswered goals in the first 15 minutes. Berlo and Biondello each scored a pair of goals in the 15-minute stretch for Saint Michael's. The Yellow Jackets' only scores of the second half came in the final 13 minutes of play.
Five seniors played in their final game as a Purple Knight this afternoon: Berlo, Biondello, Pelley, Kelly Fitzgerald (Barre, Vt./Spaulding), and Lauren Rizzotti (Rockland, Mass./Cohasset).
