Women's Lacrosse Drops 16-3 Decision At 10th-Ranked New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team (3-9, 3-5 Northeast-10 Conference) lost its second game in as many days at a nationally-ranked opponent, falling at 10th-ranked University of New Haven, 16-3, on Saturday.

For New Haven (11-3, 7-1 NE-10), Mallory Ferrandiz tallied three goals and two assists, while Brigid Brady and Brianna Kenworthy also scored three goals apiece. Ashley Ferrandiz added two goals and two assists for the Chargers, while Maureen Spellman stopped five shots in net to earn the win.

For the Purple Knights, seniors Kim Berlo (Scituate, Mass./Scituate), Amanda Pelley (Mashpee, Mass./Falmouth), and Lauren Rizzotti (Rockland, Mass./Cohasset) scored one goal apiece. Sophomore Meghan McLaughlin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) stopped four shots in the setback for the Purple Knights in 36 minutes of play, and freshman Sandra Palumbo (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) recorded one save in the final 24 minutes of action.

New Haven controlled play from the outset, as the Chargers raced out to a 10-0 lead at halftime. New Haven stretched its lead to 11-0 early in the second half before Rizzotti opened the scoring for Saint Michael's.

New Haven finished with a 22-9 advantage in shots. Saint Michael's, however, held a 17-11 edge in ground balls and an 11-10 edge in draw controls.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Tuesday, as the Purple Knights host Southern New Hampshire University for a 4 p.m. contest on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex.
