BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team (3-8) lost its third game of the season to a nationally-ranked opponent on Friday, falling at second-ranked C.W. Post, 20-7, in non-conference action.
C.W. Post (11-1), winners off 11 straight contests, received five goals and an assist from senior Jaclyn Napoli (West Islip, N.Y.). Junior Brianne Jackolski (Shirley, N.Y.) added three goals and an assist, while senior Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) also scored three goals in the win. Sophomore Sam Powers (Holbrook, N.Y.) stopped three shots in net to earn the victory.
For Saint Michael's, senior Amanda Pelley (Mashpee, Falmouth) netted four goals, while freshman Eliza Scoba (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) had the other three tallies. Senior Kim Berlo (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) added an assist. Sophomore Meghan McLaughlin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) stopped seven first-half shots in suffering the loss, while freshmen Sandra Palumbo (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and Sarah Cino (Windham, N.H./Salem) combined for four second-half saves.
The host Pioneers opened the scoring just 14 seconds into the contest and never looked back, racing out to a 5-0 lead nine minutes into the contest. C.W. Post held a commanding 41-13 advantage in shots, 18-11 in draw controls, and 6-0 in caused turnovers.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Saturday, as the Purple Knights visit another nationally-ranked opponent, taking on Northeast-10 Conference rival and 10th-ranked University of New Haven for a 4 p.m. contest.
