COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s College women’s lacrosse team (3-11, 3-8 Northeast-10 Conference) ended its season on Saturday afternoon with a 21-3 loss to seventh-ranked Stonehill College on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex.
For Stonehill (12-2, 10-1 NE-10), sophomore Samantha Lynott (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded five goals and two assists, while freshmen Kayla Green (Londonderry, N.H.) and Kelsey Reilly (Hingham, Mass.) added three goals and two assists apiece. Junior Hannah Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and freshman Heather Sullivan (Andover, Mass.) each contributed three goals and one assist, while in goal, freshman Rebecca Moore (Marlborough, Mass.) stopped six shots, while classmate Caitlyn Taveira (Mineola, N.Y.) turned aside two shots.
For Saint Michael’s, junior Elizabeth Siekman (Cheshire, Conn.), sophomore Spenser Wolfe (West Newbury, Mass./The Governor’s Academy), and freshman Alee Ramos (Woodbridge, Conn./Hopkins School) netted a goal apiece, while junior Sarah Gilroy (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) handed out an assist. Sophomore Sandra Palumbo (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) recorded 10 saves in the loss.
Three Saint Michael's seniors were honored prior to the game: Maddie Cave (Thomaston, Maine/Gould Academy), Allie Mullen (Concord, N.H./Concord), and Kathleen Thompson (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck).
The Skyhawks raced out of the gate, scoring seven unanswered goals in the opening nine minutes of play. Ramos and Siekman pulled the Purple Knights to within 7-2 with goals 34 seconds apart midway through the first half, but Stonehill then scored the next six goals to open up a double-digit advantage, 13-2. Wolfe’s score with two seconds left in the period pulled the Purple Knights to within 13-3 at halftime, but Stonehill scored all eight second-half goals to complete the win.
Stonehill finished with a sizable 35-13 advantage in shots, and a 20-16 edge in ground balls. Both teams won 13 faceoffs apiece.
Stonehill will enter the NE-10 Tournament as the #2 seed and receive a bye into the NE-10 Semifinals.
