Women's Lacrosse Can't Keep Pace At Top-Ranked Adelphi, 24-0

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team (1-6, 1-3 Northeast-10 Conference) suffered a 24-0 loss at top-ranked and undefeated Adelphi University in conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Sandra Palumbo (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) recorded 17 saves in the setback.

For Adelphi (10-0, 7-0 NE-10), Erica Devito tallied five goals and two assists, while Elizabeth Fey also scored five time. Claire Petersen added a goal and eight assists, while Caitlin Fitzpatrick stopped seven shots to earn the shutout.

The Panthers wasted little time in establishing control, as Adelphi scored nine goals in the first 8:09 of the contest, and held a 17-0 lead at halftime.

Adelphi finished with a 52-9 edge in shots, a 35-16 advantage in ground balls, and committed just five turnovers to 18 for Saint Michael's.

The 24 goals allowed match the most for Saint Michael's in program history, and the 17 first-half goals allowed also is a program-high. The 24-goal margin of defeat exceeds the previous margin of 20 goals.

Saint Michael's begins a three-game homestand on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. contest versus league-rival Merrimack College on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex.
