Senior Soule, Women's Lacrosse Battle To Victory In Overtime, 16-15 Over Bentley


COLCHESTER, Vt.- The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team (7-4, 5-3 NE-10) gained a stronghold on fifth place in the Northeast-10 Conference with a 16-15 overtime win over Bentley College (5-8, 4-4 NE-10) on Saturday at Duffy Field in Colchester. On 'Senior Day', it was the senior Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) scoring three of the Purple Knights final four goals, including the game-winner with 1:33 left in overtime, to clinch the win.

Having won their second straight on Saturday, the Purple Knights scoring attack was led by junior Kim Berlo (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) with seven points on three goals and four assists. The team's leading scorer, Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth), tallied four goals on the afternoon, three of which came consecutively to open up the second half. Besides the eventual game-winner, Soule was responsible for forcing overtime with a free position goal with 1:44 left in regulation. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) recorded a season-high 13 saves in her seventh win this year.

For Bentley, sophomore Jaclyn Griffin (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) matched Berlo's seven points with six goals and one assist to lead the Falcons offense. Junior Alyssa Ritchie (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) also chipped in two goals and two assists for Bentley. Sophomore goalkeeper Christina Guglielmo (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) stopped nine shots in net as the Falcons dropped their second straight.

The Purple Knights do not skip a beat, hosting C.W. Post on Sunday, April 20 at 12:00 p.m. for a non-conference match-up. The Falcons return home to square off with Franklin Pierce on Tuesday, April 22 under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
