Women's Lacrosse 10-goal Second Half Falls Short Of Merrimack, 14-13


COLCHESTER, Vt.- The Warriors of Merrimack College (7-2, 6-2 NE-10) withstood a 10-4 run by the Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team (5-4, 3-3 NE-10) in the second half to sneak past the Purple Knights Saturday afternoon at Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex. Junior Kim Berlo (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) led the Purple Knights offense with four goals and three assists as Saint Michael's dropped their third straight contest.

Helping the Warriors to victory was junior attacker Lauren Leddy (Sea Girt, N.J./Manasquan), who scored four goals and two assists to lead the Merrimack charge. Jumping out to a 10-3 halftime lead, the Warriors senior goaltender Amanda DiNiito (East Moriches, N.Y./Shoreham Heights) blocked six shots in the first half, with nine on the afternoon.

For Saint Michael's, senior attacker Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) tallied a hat trick and one assist, while classmate Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) recorded a hat trick of her own. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) also stopped five shots on the afternoon for the Purple Knights.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Wednesday, April 16 at 4 p.m. at Saint Anselm College (3-6, 2-4 NE-10).
