Curran Sets Program Record While Women's Lacrosse Stumbles Versus Bryant

COLCHESTER, Vt.- The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team (5-2, 3-1 NE-10) dropped a 15-9 decision to the Bulldogs of Bryant (7-3, 5-1 NE-10) on Saturday afternoon at Duffy Field on Doc Jacobs Complex. Senior attacker Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) was one of two players with three goals for the Purple Knights, and in the process, set a new record for career points in the program's 25-year history with 158 points. Curran, with 41 points on the year, passed Amanda Lohin's ('03) previous mark of 156 points on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights' four-game win-streak came to an end.

Converting their first five shots into goals, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Saint Michael's got on the scoreboard. Junior midfielder Delia Glover (Marston Mills, Mass./Barnstable) scored her hat trick of goals within the first six minutes to help Bryant to a 9-7 halftime lead. Senior midfielder Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, N.Y./Manasquan) led all scorers with five points on four goals and one helper. Freshman attacker Tamara Bender (Mount Vernon, N.H./Souhegan) also chipped in four goals to push her first-year total to 20 goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Bolton (Belgrade Lakes, Maine/Scarborough) improved her season mark to 7-3 with three saves on the afternoon.

For the Purple Knights, senior Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) matched Curran's trio of goals, all of which contributed to a 7-4 run to end the first half. Saint Michael's closed the gap to one early in the second half with junior Amanda Pelley's (Mashpee, Mass./Falmouth) 18th goal of the season, but five straight from the Bulldogs sealed their eighth straight triumph over the Purple Knights. After allowing five quick goals in the first half, senior goalkeeper Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) went on to make eight in the game, including seven in the first frame.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Tuesday, April 8 at top-seeded Southern New Hampshire (6-4, 5-0 NE-10) at 4:00 p.m., while Bryant hosts Stonehill (6-1, 4-0 NE-10) under the lights on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
