Women's Lacrosse Ends Year With 20-13 Loss At Bentley In NE-10 Quarterfinals


WALTHAM, Mass.- The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team was defeated by Bentley College, 20-13, in the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals on Wednesday afternoon. The Purple Knights concluded their season with a 7-8 overall record and 5-6 mark in conference play.

For the Purple Knights, juniors Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) and Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) and sophomore Kim Berlo (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) led Saint Michael's with three goals apiece, while Berlo added an assist for a four-point games. Senior Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Gov. Dummer Academy) collected a pair of goals and assists for four points and junior Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) posted 12 saves between the pipes.

Bentley took an early 3-0 lead three minutes into the game, before Saint Michael's got on the board on a goal by Curran with 24:34 left in the first half. Jaclyn Griffin (Barrington, Ill.) and Katie Van Horne (Liverpool, N.Y.) tallied back-to-back goals for Bentley over the next seven minutes to put the Falcons up 5-1 midway through the half.

With Bentley 5-1, Curran and Lagasse cut the deficit to 5-3 with 15:27 remaining, but that was closest they would get as the Falcons outscored the Purple Knights 6-3, including four-straight, to end the half.

Berlo scored one of her three goals to begin the second half on a nice individual effort to cut the lead down to 11-7. Kellyn Riccitelli (Cheshire, Conn.) and Alyssa Ritchie (North Andover, Mass.) answered for the Falcons with goals less than two minutes later and Leslie Bullis (Falmouth, Mass.) tallied her first of the game to increase the lead to 14-7. Curran and Soule help shrink the lead to 14-9, but Bentley once again answered the call and outscored the Purple Knights 6-4 down the stretch to earn the victory.

The Falcons earned a 40-26 advantage in shots and Saint Michael's loss the turnover battle with 23 miscues to Bentley's 19. Rule had the highlight of the game for Saint Michael's as she stopped a empty net, free-position goal, when Wakem was called for a check with 24:00 left in the game.
