COLCHESTER, Vt. ? The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-6 victory over Franklin Pierce College on Monday afternoon on Duffy Field at the Doc Jacobs Sports Complex. Junior assistant captain Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) led the way posting six goals, six ground balls and six draw controls.
For the Ravens (1-11, 0-6 NE-10), Carla Savini (Danvers, Mass.) tallied two goals, while May Stoffer (New Hartford, Conn.) posted a three-point game with a goal and two assists. Celine Stamets (Sausalito, Calif.) and Nicole McKinnon (Northfield, N.H.) each recorded goals and Erin Hopkins (Penn Yan, N.Y.) stopped 16 shots, including 10 in the first half in the loss.
For the Purple Knights (6-6, 5-4 NE-10), senior tri-captain Megan Rule (Bow, N.H./Bow) earned five goals and an assist, while senior tri-captain Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Dummer Academy) had four goals and two assists. Sophomore Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) scored four goals and added an assist and freshman Kayla Sibilia (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) tallied two goals. Junior goaltender Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) made three saves to earn the victory for the Purple Knights.
Saint Michael's scored the first five goals only four minutes into the game with Rule leading the way with two tallies. Franklin Pierce made 5-1 on a goal by Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, Mass.), just over four minutes into the game. The Purple Knights then opened it up, outscoring the Ravens 11-3 to close out the half.
Saint Michael's started the second half where they left off in the first with the first five goals before Franklin Pierce added two in the final five minutes of the game.
The Purple Knights dominated the Ravens, earning a 23-to-8 advantage in draw controls with Soule and Sibilia sharing the team-lead with six apiece. They also out-shot the Ravens 47-18 in the contest.
The Purple Knights will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Bentley College for a 1 p.m. face-off and they will return home on Sunday for Senior Day against the University of New Haven beginning at 2 p.m. For more information women's lacrosse, visit our website at www.smcathletics.com.
