Women's Lacrosse Drops 13-10 Decision To Southern N.H.


COLCHESTER, Vt. - Southern New Hampshire University sophomores Libby Parent (Hinesburg, Vt.) and Jennifer Parro (Ipswich, Mass.) combined to score the final four goals to lead the Penmen as they rally past Saint Michael's College for a 13-10 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Duffy Field on the Doc Jacobs Sports Complex. Parent scored all four in the final 10 minutes with Parro providing the assist on each score.

For the Penmen (4-2, 3-1 NE-10), Parent led the attack with a game-high five goals and Parro dished out a game-high six assists on the afternoon. Sophomore Julie Kraus (Derry, N.H.) tallied four goals, four ground balls, four caused turnovers and four draw controls. Sophomore Maura Murphy (Candia, N.H.) posted two scores and graduate student Lisa McEachern (Scituate, Mass.) stopped eight shots to earn her fourth victory of the season.

For the Purple Knights (5-5, 4-3 NE-10), senior tri-captain Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Dummer Academy) and sophomore Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) led Saint Michael's with three goals apiece, while junior assistant captain Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) recorded two scores. Junior Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton) posted 10 saves in the lost for the Purple Knights.

Saint Michael's gained a quick 4-0 advantage, halfway through the first half, thanks to two scores by Soule and goals by Curran and sophomore Lauren Rizzotti (Rockland, Mass./Cohasset). Freshman Carole Lee (Derry, N.H.) got Southern New Hampshire on the board with 11:27 remaining in the half and Murphy added two more to cut the deficit to one.

The Purple Knights answered with two scores, but Kraus earned her first of the game as Saint Michael's had a 6-4 lead into halftime.

The Penmen began the second half outscoring the Purple Knights 4-2 in the first 10 minutes of play, which gave them an 8-7 lead on Kraus's third of the game. The teams would exchange goals, until Parent and Parro stepped up and broke a 10-10 tie with three straight goals to close out the game.

Southern New Hampshire out-shot Saint Michael's 41-27 in the game and the Penmen had a commanding lead in draw controls winning 18-of-25 face-offs.

The Purple Knights will travel to Merrimack College for a 1 p.m. face-off this coming Saturday and return home on April 16 to host Franklin Pierce in their final Northeast-10 game.
