SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt.) and Kristen Palazzo (Armonk, N.Y.) each tallied five goals and an assist to lead Saint Michael's College to a 17-7 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse victory over American International College Saturday at John Homer Miller Field. The win lifts the Purple Knights to 5-2 and 3-1 in NE-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets are 1-4 overall and in the league.
Megan Rule (Bow, N.H.) and Lauren Rizzotti (Cohasset, Mass.) also recorded two goals apiece for Saint Michael's. Caitlin Mooney (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Jessica Scearbo (Arlington, Mass.) notched three goals apiece for AIC, while Shannon Burke (Billerica, Mass.) had the other Yellow Jacket score.
AIC led 3-1 7:27 into the game following Scearbo's first goal of the contest, but the Purple Knights would reel off five unanswered goals to take a 6-3 lead at the 12:45 mark on a Palazzo tally. Mooney scored with 14:34 left in the half to make it 6-4, but four straight goals by the Purple Knights made it 10-4 with 7:19 left in the first half on a Rule goal. Saint Michael's would lead 12-6 at halftime and scored the first five goals of the second half before Scearbo scored with 4:25 left in the game.
Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I.) made eight saves to pick up the win in goal for the Purple Knights. Megan Trytsman (Kwazulu Natal, South Africa) made nine saves over the first 49:17 for AIC before giving way to Liz Casper (Attleboro, Mass.) who stopped one shot the rest of the way. Saint Michael's outshot AIC 30-18.
AIC returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Bryant for a 3:30 game.
