COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse
team (8-6, 5-5 NE-10) closed out the regular season with a 14-10
loss to Bryant University (10-4, 8-2 NE-10) on Saturday afternoon
at Duffy Field.
For the Bulldogs, juniors Shaun Leddy (Sea
Girt, N.J./Manasquan), Lauren Carlisle
(San Diego, Calif./Mount Carmel), and Amanda
Gallant (Andover, Mass./Andover) each scored three goals,
while senior Marie Grant (Weston,
Mass./Weston) made 11 stops in net.
For the Purple Knights, Kristen Palazzo (Armonk, N.Y./Bryam
Hills) scored three times in the senior's last collegiate
home game, and was joined by defender Noel Smith (Somers,
Conn./Sommers) in her final game at Saint Michael's. In
goal, sophomore Courtney Wakem (Tiverton,
R.I./Tiverton) made eight saves.
Freshman Delia Glover (Marston Mills,
Mass./Barnstable) scored the contest's first goal at the
3:53 mark of the first half, and put Bryant up for good, as the
Bulldogs never gave up their lead. With the score 3-0, junior
Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Dummer)
put the home team on the board 10:36 into the opening frame, and
freshman Ava Gottshall (Amherst, Mass./Amherst)
pulled the Purple Knights within one less than two minutes later,
but once again the visitors scored three unanswered goals to extend
their lead at 6-2. Over the final 13:56 of the first half, the each
side traded goals and entered the intermission with Bryant holding
a 10-6 advantage.
Just 57 seconds into the second half, Leddy scored what would
eventually prove to be the game winner, and added an insurance goal
just over four minutes later to complete her hat-trick. Saint
Michael's out shot their opponent 34-30, and scored four goals to
Bryant's three over the final 21:26, but ultimately dropped their
third consecutive game.
Bryant plays again on Wednesday when it hosts a Northeast-10
tournament quarterfinal game against a yet to be determined
opponent, while Saint Michael's will learn their postseason fate
with the outcome of other conference games taking place this
afternoon.
