Women's Lacrosse Defeated By Southern New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, NH ? Freshman Jennifer Parro (Ipswich, MA) totaled five points to lead the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen past the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action here today. The Penmen improve to 6-4 overall and 5-4 in the league, while the Purple Knights drop to 8-5 overall and 5-4 NE-10.

SMC and SNHU are currently tied for fifth in the league. The top six teams advance to the NE-10 tournament. SNHU is looking to make its first ever appearance in the NE-10 playoffs.

Parro netted three goals and added two assists, while classmates Maura Murphy (Candia, NH) and Libby Parent (Hinesburg, VT) added three goals each to lead the SNHU offense. Junior Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, MA) and sophomore Amanda Soule (Hartland, VT) led the scoring for SMC with three goals apiece, while freshman Ava Gottschall (Amherst, MA) tallied two assists.

SNHU opened up the scoring just over 11 minutes into the first half off a goal by Murphy, assisted by Jennifer Thibault (Montgomery, NJ). SMC scored four of the next five goals to take a 4-2 lead with just under seven minutes to play in the half. After two more scores from SNHU, the Purple Knights took a 5-4 lead into the break following Lagasse's third goal of the game at the 4:45 mark.

Southern New Hampshire would go on to score seven unanswered goals in the second half, capped off by a goal by Nicki Downey (Rutland, VT) with nine minutes left to play, which gave SNHU an 11-5 lead. Soule scored her second goal of the game to stop the SNHU run at 8:16, but Parent answered with two goals of her own in the last three minutes to secure the game for the Penmen.

SNHU outshot the Purple Knights 23-12 in the second half, and finished with a 43-27 edge in shots overall. Senior goalkeeper Lisa McEachern (Scituate, MA) recorded 13 saves for the Penmen, while sophomore Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, RI) totaled 16 saves for the SMC.

SNHU will close out its regular season schedule on Saturday (4/29) when it hosts Southern Connecticut State University in a Northeast-10 Conference game at 6 p.m. Saint Michael's will host Bryant for its final league game on Saturday.
