COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse
team (4-2, 2-1 NE-10), defeated Bentley College (3-3, 2-2 NE-10),
17-14, in Northeast-10 action on Saturday afternoon at Duffy
Field.
For the Falcons, sophomore Beth Gendron (Tyngsboro,
Mass./Tyngsboro) scored four goals, and classmates
Liz Goddard (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) and
Bridget Fitzgerald (Winchester, Mass./Winchester)
each tallied three goals apiece. Senior Lisa Cavallo
(Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton), meanwhile, stopped 10 shots
in net.
For Saint Michael's, senior Kristen Palazzo (Armonk,
N.Y./Bryam Hills) netted four goals, and sophomore
Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union)
scored three times, as three other Purple Knights scored twice.
Sophomore Courtney Wakem (Tiverton, R.I./Tiverton)
made five saves.
The home team scored the contest's first goal, just 1:20 into the
game, and both sides traded goals until Saint Michael's scored with
2:35 remaining in the opening half, to hold a 7-6 advantage
entering the intermission.
In the second half, each side went on multiple score runs,
including the Purple Knights' four unanswered points, which put
them up 13-9 with 11:50 left in the match. Bentley quickly
responded, stringing together their own run, scoring four straight,
and ultimately narrowed their deficit to one point, at 15-14. The
home team would not allow the equalizer, and added two more
insurance goals over the final three minutes to clinch the
victory.
Saint Michael's will return to action on Tuesday when they travel
to Saint Anselm College for a 4 p.m. face-off. Bentley will play
again on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. home contest against Stonehill
College.
