Talcott Named NEWHA Defensive Player of the Week, Monbouquette Also Honored

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey senior Nicole Talcott (Colchester, Vt./Rice Memorial Prep) was named New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 13. Junior Jordan Monbouquette (Wayland, Mass./Lawrence Academy) earned a spot on the NEWHA Weekly Honor Roll.

Talcott made 50 saves in a 1-1 draw with Sacred Heart University, which entered the game tied for fourth in NCAA Division I/II in scoring (3.7), on Friday. Four of Talcott's stops came in overtime, allowing her to reach 50 saves for the second time in her career. In five games this year, Talcott has a .905 save percentage and 3.65 goals-against average, while each of her last 30 appearances were starts. Talcott claimed her sixth career weekly accolade, but her first major honor, as all three Purple Knight goalies have now been recognized by the NEWHA this winter.

Monbouquette had a goal, an assist and three blocks during a 0-1-1 weekend with Sacred Heart, and landed her second NEWHA honor of the season. In the 1-1 draw on Friday, she scored the equalizer at 7:04 of the third period and added all three of her blocks. She lent the primary assist on a Purple Knight goal that cut the deficit to 4-1 during the second period of an 8-1 loss on Saturday. Monbouquette turns in career highs in goals (5) and points (8).

Saint Michael's, now 3-10-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the NEWHA, is fourth in the five-team league but stands just three points outside of third place. The Purple Knights host Anna Maria College in a break from conference action this weekend, with a 7 p.m. contest on Friday and a 1 p.m. meeting on Saturday.
