COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey senior Madison Nichols (Gilford, N.H./Tilton School) was named to the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 6. It was her second accolade of the season.
Nichols turned in a goal and an assist during the Purple Knights' two-game Delta Hotels Burlington Ice Hockey Classic over the weekend. She had a power-play goal in a 4-1 loss to the University of Southern Maine on Friday before assisting the tying goal in a 5-1 loss to the State University of New York Buffalo State on Saturday. She capped the weekend by being named to the all-tournament team.
Since scoring three goals in her first 67 career games, Nichols has registered six goals - along with one assist - in the past eight contests, with three coming on the power play. She played a hand in four of the Purple Knights' past five goals, tallying three of them herself, as her six goals and seven points also account for her season totals.
Nichols is tied for second in the NEWHA in power-play goals (3) and tied for 11th in overall goals. Among all NCAA Division I/II players, she is tied for 16th in power-play markers, but tied for first in extra-woman tallies per game, with her rate of 0.25 matching only a player from Boston College.
Saint Michael's, now 3-9 overall and 2-4 in the NEWHA, resumes league play by hosting Sacred Heart University for a two-game weekend set. The teams are separated by only three points in the standings, as puck drops on their Friday affair at 7 p.m. and their Saturday contest at 1 p.m.
