COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey sophomore goalie Alyssa Cimino (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) was named to the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, Dec. 2. It was the first accolade of her career.
While making her first two appearances of the season, Cimino did not allow a goal during 5-on-5 play over a pair of relief outings at the University of New England during the weekend. In 51:18 of action, she made 28 saves, but two of the goals she yielded were power-play markers, and the other two came in 4-on-4 situations. Cimino stopped all 14 shots she faced during 39:15 worth of 5-on-5 action. After turning aside five shots in 8:21 on Friday, she had a career-best 23 saves in the final 42:57 on Saturday. Through five career contests, all in a reserve capacity, Cimino has 54 stops in 95:30 of action, accumulating an .885 save percentage.
Saint Michael's, now 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the NEWHA, is four points out of second place in the league with more than a month until its next league affair. The Purple Knights play again on Jan. 4-5 when they host the Delta Hotels Burlington Ice Hockey Classic, taking on the University of Southern Maine at 7 p.m. on the opening day.
