COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey senior Jillian Witwicki (Danvers, Mass./Pingree School) was named to the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 7. This is Witwicki's second weekly accolade of the season.
Witwicki scored once, blocked seven shots and went 20-for-40 on faceoffs while being named to the Trader Duke's Ice Hockey Classic All-Tournament Team last weekend. In the Purple Knights' 3-2 loss to the University of Southern Maine on Friday, she blocked four shots while turning in an even +/- and going 12-of-20 on draws. During a 4-1 setback against Plymouth State University on Saturday, Witwicki scored on a power play with 1:34 remaining, blocked three more shots and won eight faceoffs. Witwicki has recorded two goals and two assists this season through 11 games, matching her point total from last winter when she played twice as many contests. With 17 career goals she is one short of the program's top 10.
The Purple Knights, who are 2-12, host Sacred Heart University on Friday at 7:05 p.m. to begin a two-game weekend series.
