Santore earns second career ECAC East postseason laurel, named honorable mention
COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey senior Madelena Santore (Millington, N.J./New Jersey Rockets) earned her second league honor in as many years with the squad, being named an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East All-Conference honorable mention on Friday. Santore was among 18 players from the 12-team league to draw an all-league nod, including one of just nine forwards.
Santore, who has two years of eligibility remaining, landed on the all-rookie team last winter in her first season of collegiate play after transferring from Rutgers University. She has scored 10 goals this season, adding to her school-record 18 goals as a junior and becoming just the third Purple Knight with multiple 10-goal seasons. She also has seven assists, having notched at least one point in 11 of her 22 contests. While turning in multiple points in five outings, Santore collected a season-high three points on a goal and two assists in a 3-2 overtime victory against Castleton State College on Jan. 28.
Santore's 28 career goals in only two seasons put her in sixth on the Saint Michael's all-time list. Santore also continues to climb the team's career points list, recently increasing her total to 44, moving into eighth in program history.
At 3-20-1 overall, the Purple Knights prepare for the ECAC Open Tournament this weekend. Fourth-seeded Saint Michael's opposes No. 1 College of the Holy Cross on Saturday during a semifinal at 1 p.m. on the campus of Saint Anselm College before the championship and consolation contests occur Sunday.
