Women's Ice Hockey Drops 5-2 Contest To Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine - Saint Michael's women's ice hockey (3-12-1, 1-10-1 ECAC East) dropped a 5-2 contest on Saturday to the University of Southern Maine Huskies (5-8-2, 4-6-0 ECAC East) at the USM Ice Arena.
After the Huskies jumped in front of the Purple Knights midway through the first period, Saint Michael's senior Sarah Landis (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) tied it back up before the end of the frame. Recording the assists for the first Purple Knights goal was sophomore Kiera Nelligan (Melrose, Mass./Arlington Catholic) and junior Kelly Rose Losi (Milton, Mass./Milton).
The Huskies tallied two more goals in the second frame, but it was Saint Michael's who again had the final say in the period, as senior Crystal Sarno (Stoneham, Mass./Canterbury School) assisted classmate Desiree Biron (Bow, N.H./The Gunnery School/University of Vermont) for the second, and final Purple Knight's goal.
The Huskies wrapped up their scoring in the final frame with two more goals, as the Purple Knights outshot Southern Maine 30-28. Junior Alysia Goldman (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Hebron Academy) held her ground between the pipes with 23 saves.
Saint Michael's will play their next ECAC East contest against league-rival Manhattanville College on Friday at 7 p.m.
