COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team will open its 10th varsity season this weekend, as the Purple Knights hit the road for a pair of ECAC East contests.
Led by 10th-year head coach Chris Donovan, the Purple Knights play at Saint Anselm College on Friday at 7 p.m., and at New England College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Following those two road contests, Saint Michael's will play its next seven games at home, opening the month-long homestand on Friday, November 13 with a 7 p.m. contests versus the University of Southern Maine. In all, 10 of Saint Michael's first 14 games are on its home ice of Cairns Arena in South Burlington.
Saint Michael's brings back its top three scorers, and top goaltender, from a season ago. That group includes senior Desiree Biron (Bow, N.H./The Gunnery School), who netted a team-high 13 goals last year; classmate and co-captain Meghan Sweezey (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield), who recorded a team-high 12 assists last year; junior defender Emily Paquin (Bowie, Md./Washington Pride), who led the squad with four power play goals; and junior goaltender Alysia Goldman (Ballston lake, N.Y./Hebron Academy), who posted a program-record 3.57 goals against average last year.
