COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's and women's ice hockey team will both travel to Worcester, Mass., this weekend, as the Purple Knights take part in postseason competition.

The fifth-seeded men's ice hockey team (8-15-2, 2-3 Northeast-10 Conference) will visit fourth-seeded Assumption College (6-15-4, 2-3 NE-10) in the NE-10 Quarterfinals on Saturday at Buffone Rink, with the game starting at 7:30 p.m.

The fourth-seeded women's ice hockey squad (6-16-3), meanwhile, will play a pair of games at the College of the Holy Cross in the ECAC Women's Open Tournament. The Purple Knights will take on the host Crusaders at the Hart Recreation Center on Saturday at 5 p.m., and then play either Sacred Heart University or Saint Anselm College on Sunday at either 1 or 4 p.m.

The Saint Michael's men enter the postseason coming off of a 5-2 win at Stonehill College on Tuesday. The Purple Knights are led by seniors Chris Healey (Salem, Mass./New Hampshire Junior Monarchs) and Ryan Mero (Peekskill, N.Y./Avon Old Farms). Mero leads the NE-10 with 34 points, and his 22 assists are second in the conference. Healey, meanwhile, is second in the NE-10 with 17 goals, and is tied for the conference lead with seven power play goals.

The winner of Saturday's Quarterfinal contest advances to the NE-10 Semifinals, and will visit either top-seeded Saint Anselm College or second-seeded Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday. Saint Michael's is the defending NE-10 Tournament Champion.

The Saint Michael's women have won two of their last four contests. The Purple Knights are led by juniors Desiree Biron (Bow, N.H./The Gunnery School) and Meghan Sweezey (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield). Both have a team-best 21 points, with Biron netting a team-leading 13 goals, and Sweezey handing out a team-high 12 assists.
