Women's Ice Hockey Falls To Salve Regina, 4-1

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team (4-12-2, 2-10-2 ECAC East) fell to Salve Regina University (12-5-1, 9-5-0 ECAC East), 4-1, Friday evening at Cairns Arena in South Burlington.

For Salve Regina, sophomore Molly Golden (Milton, Mass.) registered two goals and an assist, while fellow sophomore assistant captain Gabrielle Gardner (Farmington Mills, Mich.) netted a score and added an assist. Freshman Kathleen Roche (Boston, Mass.) also found the back of the net in the win for the Seahawks. Senior captain Caitlin Campbell (Hingham, Mass.) ended with two helpers, and first-years Shannon Ellis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Jen Thiesing (Sandwich, Mass.) added an assist each. Sophomore Lauren Barella (Lennon, Mich.) stopped 28 shots in the victory.

For Saint Michael's, junior assistant captain Alexis Regan (Canton, Mass./Canton) registered a score, while sophomores Kelly Rose Losi (Milton, Mass./Milton) and Kaleigh Ferrari (Millbrook, N.Y./The Millbrook School) had one helper apiece. Sophomore Alysia Goldman (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Hebron Academy) recorded 29 saves in defeat.

The Seahawks broke the scoreless tie, 3:08 into the second period, when Golden and Campbell setup Gardner for the sophomore's seventh score of the season. At the 9:23 mark of the period, Ellis found her classmate Roche for the first-year's seventh tally of the season. The Seahawks would add another score, this time on a power-play when Golden netted her eighth goal of the season, coming from Campbell and Thiesing with 5:28 remaining in the second period. The Purple Knights got on the board halfway through the final period when Regan netted her second goal of the season, which came from Losi and Ferrari. Saint Michael's third period score wasn't enough as Salve Regina skated to the two-goal victory. The Seahawks added an empty-netter with 19 seconds remaining in regulation - which was Gardner assisting on Golden's second goal of the game.

Saint Michael's returns back to Cairns tomorrow as the Purple Knights take on ECAC East opponent the University of Massachusetts Boston at 3 p.m.
