Women's Ice Hockey Bested By Saint Anselm 4-1

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team (1-3, 0-2 ECAC East) was defeated by the Hawks of Saint Anselm College (3-0, 3-0 ECAC East) 4-1, Friday evening at Cairns Arena.

For the Hawks, senior Bianca DeSantis (Georgetown, Mass.) and freshmen Molly Crol (Danvers, Mass.) each recorded a goal and assist. Freshmen Sami Tatu (Waterford, Mich.) finished the night with two helpers for Saint Anselm. Sophomore goalkeeper Jen Taylor (Canadaigua, N.Y.) registered 14 saves en route to the win.

Senior captain Jess Tourville (Baltimore, Vt./Springfield) led the way for the Purple Knights with her third period goal. Senior Shannon Murphy (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) had an assist to round out the Purple Knights' scoring. Sophomore Alysia Goldman (Bollston Lake, N.Y./Hebron Academy) stopped 22-of-26 shots in the loss.

Saint Anselm struck first, seven minutes into the first period, when DeSantis netted her second goal of the season which came from Tatu. With 9:53 left in the first period, Corl found senior Samantha Rowe (Chelmsford, Mass.) for her first score of the season. After a scoreless second period, Crol tallied her second goal of the season at 14:33, coming from freshmen Marissa Serafino (Rutland, Vt.) and DeSantis. The Hawks wasted only 20 seconds to find the back of the net for their second goal of the period, when sophomore Chelsea Fillingim (Fairbanks, Alaska) notched her second score of the season, which was assisted by junior Brittney Gould (Rousemount, Minn.) and Tatu.

Saint Michael's had a chance to cut the deficit in half with 35 seconds remaining in the second period when junior Molly DiMasi (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) had a one-on-none breakaway, but was denied by Taylor . The Purple Knights got on the board with 4:45 left in the third period, when Tourville scored her first goal of the season, which was assisted by Murphy.

Saint Michael's returns to action tomorrow, when the Purple Knights take on league-rival New England College at 3 p.m.
