COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's basketball senior Megan Olsen (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) landed on the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time in five weeks, being lauded for the week ending on Sunday, Feb. 10.
Olsen averaged 14.5 points, 8.0 assists to 4.0 turnovers, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals last week. In a 73-59 win over Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, Olsen made up for the team playing without its leaders in both assists and rebounding, approaching a triple-double thanks to 19 points, a career-high 10 assists, nine rebounds and five steals. During a setback against the University of Massachusetts at Lowell on Wednesday, she notched 10 points, six assists, five boards and two steals.
Olsen leads the Purple Knights in steals (60) and free throws (80) while placing second in scoring (13.9), assists (56), three-pointers (28) and free throw shooting (79.2). She also averages 4.4 rebounds while shooting 41.6 percent from the field. Olsen is tied for third in the NE-10 in steals, and ranks sixth in free throws and seventh in free throw shooting. In league play alone, she is seventh in scoring average (14.5).
Since an 0-7 start in league play, the Purple Knights are 7-3 thanks to Olsen leading the team in scoring (16.8), assists (3.7) and steals (3.1) in those 10 games, and tying for first in three-pointers (16). Since 1988-89, when the NE-10 discontinued the practice of accepting all of its teams into the postseason tournament, only two teams have rebounded from 0-7 league starts to qualify for the postseason; the Purple Knights are currently tied for 11th in a conference that accepts its top 10 into the postseason.
Saint Michael's, which is 9-12 overall and 7-10 in the NE-10, heads to Bentley University tomorrow for a 5:30 p.m. game. The Falcons are undefeated and ranked second in the latest USA TODAY national poll.
