Olsen adds to off-the-court laurels, earns second NE-10 Academic All-Conference nod

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's basketball junior Megan Olsen (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) was one of 72 student-athletes across seven sports selected for a Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference honor for the winter athletic season.

Olsen, who was recently named to the Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District 1 team, extended her program's long run of academic success in the NE-10, as Saint Michael's women's basketball players have now received academic all-league laurels 10 times in the last eight years. This is Olsen's second academic all-conference accolade, having previously been selected for the fall of 2010 while still a member of the women's soccer team. She has also landed on the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll five times.

Olsen, who was among nine NE-10 women's basketball players recognized, completed her first campaign solely on the hardwood after spending her first two years at Saint Michael's as a dual-sport athlete. She led the team in steals (46), was second in free throw shooting (86.4%), third in scoring (8.9), assists (49), field goal shooting (43.5%) and three-pointers (24), and fourth in rebounding (3.3). Olsen was sixth in the league in free throw shooting.

The NE-10 Academic All-Conference teams are chosen by a vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR). To be eligible for selection to the academic all-conference teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average; and 3) completed at least one academic year at their current institution.
