NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - Senior Logan Pintka (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie Central) tallied a game-high 19 points and a team-best eight rebounds as the Saint Michael's College women's basketball team (14-10, 12-9 Northeast-10 Conference) earned its fourth straight win on Saturday, 59-52, at Merrimack College.
Also for Saint Michael's, sophomore Nicole Adach (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds, while junior Caitlin Quinn (Oakdale, Conn./Montville) added 11 points and six rebounds.
For Merrimack (10-15, 8-13 NE-10), Gennifer Roy recorded 15 points off the bench, while Valerie Avebe also came off the bench to add 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The first half remained tight throughout, as neither team led by more than seven points. Saint Michael's went into intermission ahead by two, 31-29, as Pintka scored 15 points in the first half to lead the Purple Knights.
Saint Michael's defense took over to start the second half, as the visitors held Merrimack scoreless for the first seven minutes of the period. The Purple Knights scored 10 unanswered points in that span to open up a 41-29 advantage.
The Warriors slowly chipped away at their deficit, and pulled to within 49-46 following an Avebe lay-up with 3:03 to go. That was as close as Merrimack would get, however, as the Warriors lost to the Purple Knights for the second time in nine days in a potential playoff preview.
The Purple Knights return to action on Wednesday, as Saint Michael's plays its final game before the playoffs at Southern New Hampshire University at 5:30 p.m. The Purple Knights will then host a First Round NE-10 Tournament game on February 27 at 1 p.m. at the Ross Sports Center.
