NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team (5-2, 3-1 Northeast-10 Conference) dropped its first league game of the season on Saturday, falling to defending national champion Southern Connecticut State University, 84-61, at the Moore Fieldhouse. Senior Adrienne Carpenter (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) led the Purple Knights with a team-best 12 points.
Also for the Purple Knights, sophomore Michelle Otey (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) added 10 points. Saint Michael's trailed at halftime, 40-20, and couldn't trim its deficit despite a 41-point second half.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Tuesday, as the Purple Knights host league-rival American International College in a 5:30 p.m. contest at the Ross Sports Center.
