Ravens Raze Women's Basketball, 81-55

COLCHESTER,Vt.- The women's basketball team (13-12, 9-11 NE-10) dropped their third straight contest against the No. 20 Ravens of Franklin Pierce (21-4, 16-4 NE-10) by a score of 81-55, failing to recover from a 47-18 halftime deficit. Sophomore Michelle Otey (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Reg.) scored a team-high 14 points to lead Purple Knights offense.

Despite being out-rebounded 32-28, the Ravens jumped all over the Purple Knights early on with a 17-2 run to start the contest. The second-ranked team in the Northeast-10 Conference shot an eye-popping 57-percent from the field and even more impressive 67-percent from long range, connecting on 12-of-18. Sophomore All-American and the Northeast-10 scoring leader, Johannah Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) scored a game-high 17 points, six assists and five steals in just 22 minutes of play to lead Franklin Pierce. Junior guard Vanessa Power came off the bench for the Ravens to hit 4-of-5 from deep as part of her 14 points on the night. With their excellent ball movement, Franklin Pierce registered 24 assists on 28 of their field goals.

For the Purple Knights, freshman Logan Pintka matched Otey's 14 points while grabbing three boards. Freshman Mandy Scott also had an impressive outing for Saint Michael's, scoring five points and grabbing a team-high five boards and four steals. The Purple Knights out-rebounded the Ravens on the offensive glass, 12-4, but the deft shooting of Franklin Pierce and 17 first half Saint Michael's turnovers did the Purple Knights in.

The women return to action at home versus Bentley College on Saturday, February 23 at 1:30 p.m. before the men's contest at 3:30 p.m.
