COLCHESTER, Vt.-- Freshman Logan Pintka (Niskayuna, N.Y./Colonie) led the Saint Michael's women's basketball team (13-9, 9-8 NE-10) to a gritty 62-59 win over the defending Division-II National Champion Southern Connecticut State University (14-8, 10-7 NE-10) on Saturday afternoon at the Ross Sports Center. Pintka scored a season-high 21 points while grabbing eight rebounds on the night.
In a strong defensive showing for the Purple Knights, sophomore Alexis Keller (Harrington Park, N.J./Old Tappan) with three steals of her own also helped hold the Owls to just 28-percent shooting from the field. Keller also tallied 12 points, including a perfect 7-of-7 from the line. Senior tri-captain Allison Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) also scored 11 points and grabbed six boards in Saint Michael's first win over Southern Connecticut since January 17, 1987.
For Southern Connecticut, senior standout Kate Lynch (Rumford, R.I./La Salle Acad.) scored a team-high 20 points as one of four players in double figures for the Owls. Shooting 7-of-17 from the field, she also grabbed 10 boards. Senior forward Rochelle Johnson (Norwalk, Conn./Penn State) also recorded a double-double on the night with 12 points and 11 boards. Johnson was one of five Owls to grab three offensive boards in a game Southern Connecticut out-rebounded Saint Michael's 19-5 on the offensive glass.
The Purple Knights begin a two-game road trip to Bryant University on Wednesday, February 13 at 5:30 p.m. in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
