COLCHESTER, Vt.- The Saint Michael's women's basketball team (9-7, 6-6) dropped a defensive battle to the River Hawks of the University of Massachusetts Lowell (9-8, 4-8) on Saturday afternoon at Ross Sports Center, 46-41. Sophomore Michelle Otey (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) led Saint Michael's with 12 points on 6-10 shooting.
The Purple Knights were unable to stop the River Hawks center Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel/Cochise College) and her 16-point, 10-rebound performance as Saint Michael's dropped their second straight contest. Saint Michael's had defeated UMass Lowell earlier in the year 65-63 in overtime but amassed their lowest point total of the year on 32-percent shooting from the field.
For Saint Michael's, Otey was the only player in double-digits but senior tri-captain Adrienne Carpenter (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) scored nine points, grabbed four boards and three steals before fouling out late in the game.
The Purple Knights return to action for a non-conference contest with Dominican College on Monday, January 21 at 5:30 p.m. in Orangeburg, New York.
