Purple Knights fall to Tigers, 71-59, in non-conference play
COLCHESTER, Vt. ? The Saint Michael's women's basketball team (3-1, NE-10 1-0) suffered their first loss of the year to Holy Family University (4-0) on Saturday afternoon at the Ross Sports Center despite 14 points from both Michelle Otey (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) and Logan Pintka (Niskayuna, N.Y./Colonie).
The Tigers were led by the sharp-shooting senior guard Kelly Killion (Pennsauken, N.J./Camden Catholic), who knocked down seven three-pointers, scoring 25 points and four assists. Sophomore center Christine McCollum (Abington, Pa./St. Basil's Academy) added 14 points and six rebounds and freshman Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) chipped in 12 points and five assists in Holy Family's fourth win of the season.
After being knotted 33-33 at the half, Saint Michael's fell behind with a stiffened Tigers zone defense and eight second half threes allowed. In Otey's third straight double-digit outing, she also grabbed seven rebounds, three off her previous average of 10 per game. The freshman Pintka pulled down three rebounds on top of her 14 points in 21 minutes of play while the team's leading scorer, Anna Florent (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider), was held in check with nine points and three rebounds in 22 minutes.
Saint Michael's completes the two-game weekend with conference play on Sunday, November 25, 2007 versus Pace University at 1:30 p.m. at the Ross Sports Center before the men take the floor for a 3:30 p.m. tip.
