The Saint Michael's College volleyball team (12-12, 3-9 Northeast-10 Conference) won its final home match of the season on Sunday, blanking Saint Anselm College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 30-28) at the Ross Sports Center. With their 12th victory of the season, the Purple Knights have matched the most wins in a season since a 15-16 campaign in 1995.
For Saint Michael's, sophomore Lindsey Frazier (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) had a match-high 15 kills, while senior Audrey Rose Hagert (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) added 14 kills. Senior Amy Manougian (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) handed out a match-best 40 assists and added 10 digs, while classmate Stephanie Smetana (Independence, Mo./Truman) recorded a contest-high 17 digs. Fellow senior Justine Fletcher (Bristol, R.I./Mount Hope) chipped in with four assisted blocks as Fletcher, Hagert, Manougian and Smetana played the final home match of their careers.
For Saint Anselm (3-18, 0-13 NE-10), freshman Charlotte Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.) had 13 kills, while classmate Rachel Flaherty (Cold Spring, N.Y.) recorded 29 assists.
Saint Michael's closes the regular season on Friday with a 7 p.m. match at league-rival Southern Connecticut State University, and Saturday with an 11 a.m. contest at conference-foe Pace University. With a win in one of its final two matches, Saint Michael's will secure its first .500 season since going 18-7 in 1994. Saint Anselm completes its season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. home match versus the University of New Haven.
