Freshmen give Purple Knights spark but fall 3-1

COLCHESTER, Vt. ? Despite a third game spark from freshman Sara Reney (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee Middle), the Saint Michael's Volleyball team (7-20, NE-10 2-11) could not mount a comeback against the Dolphins of Le Moyne College (13-17, NE-10 7-7), falling in four sets 30-24, 30-23, 24-30, 30-18 on Saturday afternoon at the Ross Sports Center. The women play their final match of the season at home on Sunday, November 4 at 1 p.m. versus Merrimack College.
With their third straight win, Le Moyne clinched a playoff berth in the Northeast-10 Conference tournament starting Friday, November 9. Sophomore Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington Beach, Calif./Rosary) led the Dolphins with 17 kills and 18 digs. Junior Jodi Smith (Angola, N.Y./Eden) also added 13 kills and eight digs, while sophomore Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, N.Y.) assisted on 54 kills for Le Moyne.
For Saint Michael's, freshman Lindsey Frazier (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) notched a season-high 22 kills on 34 attacks and one hitting error. Fellow freshman Reney also sparked a third game rally with four kills in the 30-24 win. Junior Amy Manougian (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) had 38 assists and three kills in the second-to-last game of the year.
