Hopkins Named NE10 Swimmer of the Week, Kohn Lands Fourth Honor Roll Nod

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's swimming & diving junior Connor Hopkins (Windham, N.H./Windham) was named Northeast-10 Conference Swimmer of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Nov. 18. Senior Patty Kohn (Weston, Conn./Greenwich) landed on the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season, while Hopkins claimed his second accolade of the year.

Hopkins won seven times in seven tries while playing a hand in five school records and helping Saint Michael's win the North Country Invitational for the first time over the weekend. He also played a role in four of the NE10's top times this winter. During individual races, Hopkins won the 50-yard freestyle (21.14, 1st in NE10), 100 free (47.70, 2nd in NE10) and 200-yard backstroke (1:57.00, 1st in NE10).

Hopkins anchored a school-record-setting 400 free relay (3:13.78), which extended a two-point lead heading into the meet's final event by clocking in the top time in the NE10. Hopkins led off for the top 400-yard medley relay (3:36.88), which set a school record with the second-best time in the NE10. Meanwhile, Hopkins' opening 100 back leg (52.12) was also a program mark and topped all NE10 competitors this season. His opening 50 back (24.69) during the 200 medley relay (1:39.58) was second in the league, and the relay's time was fourth. Hopkins anchored the 200 free relay's (1:28.20) school-record finish, the third-best showing in the conference.

Hopkins, who bumped his career win total to 52 over the weekend, has team highs of 13 overall and six relay victories this season. He is tied for first on the squad with seven solo triumphs.

Kohn won six times in seven events while setting two school records and posting three of the NE10's top times this season during her team's North Country Invitational victory over the weekend. Kohn set both records during the 1,650 free (18:04.90, 1st in NE10), clocking in at 10:51.99 during her opening 1,000 (2nd in NE10) for another record. She also won the 200 free (1:57.37) in the NE10's fastest time while topping the 100 back (1:02.76).

In the 400 medley relay, Kohn's opening 100 back leg (59.72) was the quickest in the league and gave the Purple Knights a 5.52-second lead during a second-place finish (4:10.45, 4th in NE10) by only 0.41 ticks. She also led off for the winning 200 medley relay (1:55.19, 4th in NE10) thanks to the fourth-fastest 50 back (28.64) showing this winter. Kohn aided the winning 200 free relay (1:44.21, 4th in NE10) and 400 free relay (3:47.72, 3rd in NE10).

Kohn, who now has 82 career wins, leads all members of her team in overall (18), individual (11) and relay (7) victories. She is two solo wins why of matching her career high and is six overall triumphs away from the career best she set in twice as many meets during her junior year.

Both the men's and women's Purple Knight squads have completed their first-semester schedules and return to action by hosting Bentley University on Jan. 10 at 5 p.m.
