COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's swimming & diving sophomore Seamus Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) was among 67 student-athletes across seven sports to earn a Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference honor for the winter athletic season, the league announced on Thursday.
One of eight student-athletes from his sport to land the award, Butler claimed the first postseason accolade of his career. Members of his team have now been recognized nine times in the past 10 years, with Butler's selection running the Purple Knights' streak of honorees to six straight seasons.
A three-time qualifier for the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Butler led his team with six relay victories this winter while tying for third with a career-high eight overall triumphs. Butler won multiple events at three meets as a sophomore, including claiming a career-best three races on Nov. 5 against Colby-Sawyer College. During the NE10 Championship, he helped three different seventh-place relay foursomes.
The NE10 Academic All-Conference teams are chosen by a vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR). To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-Conference teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average; and 3) completed at least one academic year at their current institution.
