NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Multiple Saint Michael's College male divers earned points at a Northeast-10 Conference Championship for the first time since 2010 on Thursday when the four-day meet opened in Southern Connecticut State University's Hutchison Natatorium.
The Purple Knight men stand fifth among seven schools with 88 points, one ahead of Pace University, while the women are seventh out of eight. By claiming 62 points, the Purple and Gold women trail sixth-place Le Moyne College by two points. Friday's preliminary races begin at 10 a.m. before the finals kick off at 6 p.m.
During the one-meter diving competition, junior Joe Vo (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) took fifth place with 222.30 points, while sophomore Nick Johns (Seaford, N.Y./Saint Anthony's), who only began diving this season, placed seventh with 192.80 points.
Two relay events were also contested during an abbreviated Thursday schedule, with the Saint Michael's men taking sixth in the 200-yard medley relay and seventh in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The 200 medley quartet, which clocked in at 1:46.06, was comprised of junior Nathan Paluso (Windham, Maine/Windham), sophomore Brandon MacPherson (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and first-years Seth Boudreau (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) and Cam Thirkell (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro).
MacPherson, Paluso, Thirkell and sophomore Joe Thomas (Norwood, Mass./Boston College HS) all completed legs for the team's "A" 800 free relay foursome, totaling a time of 7:47.26.
On the women's side, senior Julie Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) and first-years Lindsay McNall (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) and Katrina Wiesner (Bow, N.H./Bow) all swam during both relay events. The trio sided with junior Steph Nadow (Charlton, Mass./Saint Peter-Marian) to nab fifth in the 200 medley in 1:53.84. In the 800 free event, McNall, Mullowney, Wiesner and junior Kim Brady (Morris Township, N.J./Academy of Saint Elizabeth) were eighth with a time of 8:20.16.
