Nadow wins twice, Purple Knights complete tough home stretch

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Two event wins by sophomore Steph Nadow (Charlton, Mass./Saint Peter-Marian) highlighted the Saint Michael's College men's and women's swimming & diving teams' third home meet in five days on Sunday at the Ross Sports Center, against Le Moyne College. The 1-5 Purple Knight men dropped a 173-100 decision to the 2-2 Dolphins, while the 3-3 women fell by a 149-116 count against 1-3-1 Le Moyne.

Nadow has won at least once during all seven of her team's meets this year, including on multiple occasions five times. On Sunday, she won both the 50- and 100-yard backstrokes, in 30.08 and 1:04.12, respectively. During the 200-yard medley relay, Nadow joined junior Julie Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington), sophomore Kim Brady (Morris Township, N.J./Academy of Saint Elizabeth) and first-year Luci Franklin (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Lowell Whiteman School) for a second-place showing.

Mullowney won for the 13th time this year by touching the wall at 1:12.27 during the 100-yard breaststroke, and sophomore Kathleen Lamontagne (Manchester, N.H./Trinity) was second in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races. Her time of 59.64 in the 100 free was 0.55 seconds short of the winner.

Senior Corine McAllister (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), junior Grace Kahn (Fairhope, Ala./Bayside Academy), sophomore Charlotte Murray (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) and first-year Catherine Tierney (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) contributed to the runner-up 200 free relay. Kahn was also second in the 200-yard individual medley, and Tierney took second in the 1,000 free. McAllister was third in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:09.35, just 0.17 ticks behind the runner-up racer.

First-year Brandon MacPherson (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) helped both the men's 200 free and 200 medley relay quartets take second. He sided with senior Kyle Esposito (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott), sophomore Nathan Paluso (Windham, Maine/Windham) and first-year Sam Miller (Long Lake, N.Y./Long Lake Central School) on the 200 free, and senior Andrew Marshall (Kittery, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas/Saint Joseph's [Maine]) and first-years Chad Phalon (Wantage, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) and Joe Thomas (Norwood, Mass./Boston College HS) during the 200 medley.

Marshall also placed second in the 1,000 free, Paluso was the runner-up in the 100 free, and Miller touched the wall second in the 50 free. Sophomore Joe Vo (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) was second in a pair of one-meter diving competitions, and classmate Matt Pearson (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) was second in the 50 breast. During the 50 fly, junior Jack Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) took third in 27.76, placing 0.24 ticks short of second.

Saint Michael's heads to Saint Lawrence University next Sunday for a 1 p.m. meet.
