Five Purple Knights Place in Top 20 During EISA Slalom at Sugarbush

WARREN, Vt. - Five Saint Michael's College Alpine skiers finished among the top 20 in an Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) slalom race at Sugarbush Resort on Sunday. The event replaced last weekend's canceled Colby College Carnival slalom, with Sunday's results yielding no team points but allowing student-athletes the opportunity to earn points toward NCAA Championship qualification.

Of the five Purple Knight men who competed, four placed in the top 15 among 39 finishers. Junior Guillaume Grand (La Plagne, France/Lycée Général Ferrié) took eighth with a combined two-run time of 1:27.58, and sophomore Zach Bouchard (Merrimac, Mass./Gould Academy) narrowly trailed in ninth at 1:27.83. Senior Danny Duffy (Warren, Vt./Green Mountain Valley School) placed 13th at 1:28.35 while competing in his hometown, and junior Torjus Grimsrud (Stabekk, Norway/Donski Alpine) was 15th at 1:28.72.

On the women's side, senior Meggane Grand (La Plagne, France/Lycée des métiers Ambroise Croizat) finished in 17th place with a time of 1:41.58.

A separate contingent of Purple Knight Alpine skiers took part in an International Ski Federation (FIS) open slalom race at Smugglers' Notch Resort in Jeffersonville, Vt., where the Saint Michael's Carnival was held on Friday and Saturday. Sophomore Anna Willassen (Jar, Norway/Persbråten VGS) led the way in fourth place with a two-run time of 1:32.56, while classmate Megan Dingman (Park City, Utah/Rowland Hall) took seventh in 1:33.41. Sophomore Erin Spence (Aspen, Colo./Aspen) was eighth in 1:34.61.

Classmate Megan Ahearn (Ringwood, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) placed 12th in 1:35.88, sophomore Lauren Dunn (Truckee, Calif./Sugar Bowl Academy) was 15th in 1:36.91, and first-year Abby Sullivan (Saint Albans, Vt./Burke Mountain Academy) placed 23rd at 1:39.17.

Both the Saint Michael's Alpine and Nordic teams next compete at the two-day University of Vermont Carnival, which kicks off in Stowe on Friday at 9 a.m. at the Stowe Mountain Resort and Trapp Family Lodge.
