EAST BURKE, Vt. - In a University of Vermont Carnival slalom event postponed more than two weeks due to inclement conditions on Jan. 11, Saint Michael's College men's Alpine skiing sophomore Brad Farrell (West Windsor, Vt./Sharon Academy) posted a career-high finish for the second time this weekend by placing eighth on Sunday at Burke Mountain Resort. The Nordic portion of the meet will occur this Saturday and Sunday at the Trapp Family Lodge, where final college placements will be determined.
After standing last among 13 schools following the season-opening Jan. 10 giant slalom, Saint Michael's is now ninth out of 13 with 167 points, just nine behind Boston College.
Two days after placing 10th in the University of New Hampshire Carnival giant slalom, Farrell recorded a two-run time of 1:36.66 on Sunday, just 0.68 seconds out of fourth place. Sophomore Kevin Krone (Copper Mountain, Colo./Summit) notched a 23rd-place showing at 1:37.88, and senior Tim Spangler (Summit, N.J./Summit) took 37th in 1:41.90 as the Purple Knights' third scorer.
On the women's side, sophomore Nicole Cordingley (Litchfield, N.H./Campbell) was 30th with a time of 1:47.33, while senior Shannon Conroy (Auburn, Calif./Home Schooled) was the only other Saint Michael's finisher, placing 40th in 1:54.56.
The Saint Michael's Alpine skiing squad breaks until returning to action on Feb. 7-8 at the Dartmouth College Carnival.
