LYME, N.H. - Saint Michael's College men's Alpine skiing sophomore Fredrik Sandell (Oslo, Norway/Donski Alpine) and first-year Brad Farrell (West Windsor, Vt./Sharon Academy) were both in the top 20 on Sunday during a slalom event at the Dartmouth Skiway. The Purple Knights competed to make up for last weekend's Dartmouth College Carnival slalom races being canceled. Sunday's slalom event will count toward the competitors' point totals for NCAA Championship qualifying but not toward any team scores.
For the ninth time in 10 races this winter, Farrell had the top showing for Saint Michael's, placing 18th in a two-run total time of 1:42.23. Sandell narrowly trailed, taking 20th in 1:42.43. Junior Carl-Oscar Bredengen (Oslo, Norway/Donski Alpine) was the only other Purple and Gold male to finish, notching a 1:46.38 showing.
Junior Shannon Conroy (Auburn, Calif./Home Schooled) was the lone Saint Michael's woman to complete the slalom, placing 42nd in 2:00.07 after standing 51st following the opening run of the day. She chipped 0.57 seconds off of her opening run.
Both the Saint Michael's Alpine and Nordic skiing student-athletes will return to action on Friday when the season-ending, two-day Bates College Carnival kicks off. The meet will also serve as the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) Championship, as well as the NCAA East Regional Championship.
