Nordic women lone Saint Michael's racers on second day of Dartmouth Carnival
CRAFTSBURY, Vt. - Student-athletes from the women's Nordic skiing team ended up being the lone representatives from Saint Michael's College to compete on Saturday during the last day at the Dartmouth College Carnival, as the Purple Knights completed the weekend 11th among 15 institutions with 224 points. They trailed the 10th place Université Laval by two points.
Saturday's Alpine races, slated to be contested at Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme, N.H., were canceled, and the Nordic men had only two healthy racers for the three-leg 3x5K freestyle relay at Craftsbury Outdoor Center. The University of Vermont won the carnival with 977 points, as Friday's Alpine team scores were doubled.
The women entered a pair of trios into the 3x5K freestyle relay, with senior Katlyn Keane (Bethel, Maine/Telstar Regional), junior Silke Hynes (Burlington, Ontario/Milton District) and sophomore Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) clocking in at 58:38.0 as the Purple Knights' top relay. Sophomore Emily Burns (North Creek, N.Y./Johnsburg Central) and first-years Elizabeth Cubberley (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) and Brianna McKinley (Moultonborough, N.H./Moultonborough Academy) comprised the second threesome.
The Purple Knights head to Middlebury College, the site of this year's NCAA Championship, for next weekend's Middlebury Carnival. Alpine races will be contested at the Middlebury Snow Bowl, and Nordic events are slated to occur at the Rikert Ski Touring Center.
